Poland Political & General News Correspondent, Reuters

New Posted 5 December 2022 | Warsaw, Mazowieckie, PL | Thomson Reuters

Reuters is looking for an experienced journalist to lead general news coverage in Poland. We want an effective writer and a versatile reporter who is comfortable covering breaking news as well as developing insightful and original analysis. The job comes at a time when Poland faces Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War Two at its doorstep, in neighbouring Ukraine, while leading a regional push towards “illiberal democracy” and quarreling with the European Union over rule of law standards. Its economy is facing energy shortages compounded by decades of reliance on Russian fossil fuels and its military struggles with the cost of modernizing in the face of security threats. The successful candidate will have a knack for developing sources at all levels of government and cutting through spin to lead the news agenda with exclusive stories. He or she will have an eye for the sort of telling detail that can bring to life the complexities of the Polish government’s wide-ranging push to redefine the country in line with its conservative values. Beyond a strong journalism background and excellent English-language writing ability, the job requires good organizational skills and the ability to multitask. The reporter will work closely with a team of breaking news reporters across central Europe to ensure Reuters is competitive in terms of speed. He or she will participate in occasional afterhours duties which can include covering macroeconomic and corporate news. At least five years in journalism is required. Fluent Polish is essential.
