Reuters is looking for an experienced and talented US Congress Reporter to join our team covering national politics. The US Congress Reporter role involves breaking news on both legislative dealmaking on Capitol Hill as well as on congressional election campaigns, during the current midterm election cycle and beyond. The successful candidate will report on policies and the people who make them. Congress is poised for a shakeup in the coming months, with Republicans likely to regain at least one chamber of Congress, which will make them a more powerful roadblock to President Joe Biden's agenda. The successful candidate will tell the inside story of legislative battles and the political wrangling in Congress over everything from the Jan 6. Capitol riot to the budget, as well as the Republican and Democratic election campaigns. We are looking for candidates who already have strong sources inside and outside Congress, or a proven ability to develop them, and a record of producing exclusive and enterprising stories. To succeed in this role, the candidate will need to think creatively about sourcing and will travel as needed to build contacts. The field is crowded – the correspondent will need a strong competitive streak while being collaborative within the organization, working closely with colleagues who have sources in various areas.
