Visual Producer (French Speaking), West & Central Africa

Reuters is looking for a dynamic and talented visual producer to join our busy operation in Senegal. In this varied position, you will help deliver breaking and planned news coverage to more than 1,000 broadcasters and hundreds of digital outlets around the world. You will be part of a multimedia team and will work closely with video, text and still-photo counterparts in West and Central Africa.

We’re looking for someone with an outstanding news judgement that’s confident handling breaking news as well as pitching stories that go beyond the headlines. You will also be able to shoot video and photos, edit and write to very tight deadlines. Strong French and English language skills are a must for this position.

This is a full-time role that demands flexibility to work long hours and some weekends. You will report to the Senior Producer West and Central Africa.

About the Role

As a Visual Producer, at Reuters you will:

Have a keen eye for visual story-telling and the ability to shoot and edit footage within tight deadlines.

React quickly to breaking news, offering live coverage as appropriate.

Produce tight, well-written accurate news copy to deadlines.

Pitch story ideas which also translate well for digital and broadcast platforms.

Work as part of a multimedia team that covers events, starting from the planning phase through to field work.

Proactively source user-generated content and other 3rd party material, especially for breaking news.

Have the confidence and sharp decision-making skills needed to deputise occasionally for the Senior Producer.

Collaborate with and coordinate between Visuals and Text teams.

Help create and maintain planning entries whilst upholding the Reuters Trust Principles of independence, integrity and freedom from bias.

About You

You're a fit for the role of Visual Producer if you have:

Demonstrable editorial experience in either a broadcast, agency or digital newsroom.

Excellent written and spoken communication skills, in both English and French.

Excellent news judgment, with a clear vision of what makes a compelling visual story.

Advanced camera and video editing and script writing skills.

A full, clean driving licence.

Thorough understanding of the latest digital video technologies for filming, editing, transmitting and sharing video

The ability to build relationships quickly and remain calm under pressure.

Ability to drive speed and accuracy, with strong planning and organisational skills.
