Sports Reporter

New Posted 1 February 2024 | Albany, NY | Times Union

The Times Union’s award-winning sports department is looking for a Sports Reporter who knows how the games are played and can make good use of the statistics, but understands best of all that today’s readers are looking for the story behind the numbers. Someone who’s going to be out in the community getting to know the personalities — from the players on the field to the fans in the stands — that make sports in the Capital Region so compelling. Someone who doesn’t flinch from mixing in stories about the less inspiring aspects of athletics. This role will report to the Times Union office on a Hybrid schedule.

Requirements:

We want someone who can cover Division I college basketball one day, arena football the next, and can handle high school sports in any season.
We need a versatile team player of our own — a self-starter with a gift for clear, colorful writing who understands how to reach news consumers on the platforms where they’re following the action and the aftermath.

If this sounds like a challenge you’d love to take on, we want to hear from you!
