KUT News is looking for a journalist to cover general news assignments in Travis County. They will create short, quick turnaround stories for web and radio. This includes a focus on breaking news and getting stories up on the web quickly.


Responsibilities

Follows the news of the day, especially breaking news. Generates ideas, researches topics, writes, reports short turn-around stories for web and radio. Mixes radio stories for air. Ensures that all content produced meets KUT standards of accuracy, fairness and balance. Actively incorporates multiple perspectives and voices into the editorial process. Identifies omissions in our coverage and suggests ways to mitigate them.

Reports news for national programming and The Texas Newsroom as assigned.

Attends story meetings with story suggestions. Provides assistance to other reporters with story research, editorial duties and background materials.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

One year of professional experience within a news organization

Experience meeting strict deadlines and reporting under strict time limits

Experience covering daily and spot news

Knowledge of the operations of local and national public media

Ability to multitask.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Radio/Television/Film, Communications, Journalism or related field

At least 3 years of full-time broadcast reporting and/or production experience in radio or news programming.

Superior production skills including demonstrated ability to use Adobe Audition and mix audio stories for broadcast.

Spanish speaking skills.


Salary Range

$50,000 - $60,000 + depending on qualifications


Working Conditions

Lift and move standard office files and supplies. Various conditions for reporting in the field. Work hours may include occasional evenings, weekends and some holidays during peak periods to meet deadlines.
