Writer and Editor, School of Data Science

The School of Data Science at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a Writer and Editor to join their Communications Team as an integral new addition and be an experienced professional who will help the School of Data Science achieve its strategic goals by conceptualizing, writing, and editing content that showcases the School’s thought leadership, research, programs, and people. The Writer and Editor will identify stories and features that showcase faculty and School research. They will write and distribute content that conveys data science and technical concepts in an accessible and exciting way for a variety of audiences. They will also serve as School editor for internal and external communication in line with AP and UVA style guidelines. They will serve as web editor, providing strategic direction on content, navigation, design and accessibility. The Writer and Editor will work closely with the Communications Team to ensure content strategy aligns with departmental and School goals. In addition, the Writer and Editor will support the Communications Team in developing content and strategies that help build brand recognition and tell the stories of SDS and its vibrant community. This position requires someone with expert storytelling skills, interview skills, writing and editing experience. They will work closely with the Director of Communications and Communications Manager to promote news and stories through distribution and media placement.
