The Providence Journal , part of the USATODAY NETWORK , has an immediate opening for a search and social media journalist. This is a hybrid job for a journalist with a visual eye who enjoys telling stories and engaging with audiences on digital platforms. The ideal candidate will be highly creative and understand how to convey the goings-on in our community through creating Instagram stories and posts, writing alternate forms of stories, Q&As and evergreen content aimed at attracting search traffic. About 40% of the work created by this storyteller will be published directly on social media. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be able to identify and execute quick turn-around, high-interest top-of-the-funnel content based on search and social media trends. This is a new position in our newsroom that is intended to develop audiences on Instagram, TikTok and other platforms while simultaneously developing a robust evergreen content catalogue. We are seeking self-starters with high standards who can collaborate well, have excellent communication skills and can pivot to try a different approach when needed. The search and social journalist will work with editors to come up with a reporting agenda as well as with our digital team to develop a publishing plan for how to best reach targeted audiences.
