E-Commerce Writer

New Posted 25 January 2024 | Los Angeles, CA | Variety

Variety is hiring an E-commerce Writer to be based in either LA or NYC to create shoppable content for Variety.com. In this role, the writer will write daily deal posts, “best of” lists, gift guides and in-depth reviews on the latest products available in the marketplace.

The ideal candidate will have experience writing e-commerce content as well as a demonstrated interest in covering consumer electronics (TV/audio, smart home, tech accessories), merch, sports and gaming. An interest and knowledge of the entertainment industry as a whole is a plus.

Experience with affiliate networks, link tracking platforms and SEO tools is a must, as is a knowledge of the entertainment and tech industries. This prospective writer should be brimming with great pitches for product reviews and roundups, with snappy copy that incorporates SEO best practices.

While you will be joining a small team, the ability to work independently is important, as is the ability to juggle multiple assignments and deadlines at once. We are looking for a writer with a keen attention to detail, who is deadline-oriented and can create content start-to-finish (including loading photos and affiliate links) in our CMS.

Note: this is strictly an e-commerce position for Variety.com and not an entertainment or lifestyle gig for the magazine.

Responsibilities:

Write and produce 10-15 pieces of shoppable content roundups per week for Variety.com
Update existing content ensuring latest product launches and trends are reflected
Work closely with the deputy editor and e-commerce team to prioritize a mixture of content updates and new assignments while meeting daily and weekly deadlines
Develop relationships with PR reps in the industry
Attend local and national industry events, as needed, to offer live coverage

Qualifications:

Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in digital media, preferably in e-commerce
The ability to work independently, extremely detail oriented and thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
Successful and current relationships with key PR people in the market a plus
Daily experience working within a CMS (familiarity with WordPress preferred)
Proficiency with Photoshop or other image editing software
Proven track record of executing revenue-driving articles and campaigns

This position will pay $66,750. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
