The Role
We are seeking a Beauty Editor to lead Vogue Business’s burgeoning beauty coverage, reporting on M&A activity; the new and established brands and global markets to watch; and the product, consumer and marketing trends that are impacting the industry. The Beauty Editor will oversee the weekly Beauty Edit newsletter, be the face of beauty-focused events and work with our executive editors to commission freelancers.
The ideal candidate is a journalist with a background in digital editorial operations and/or business reporting, who can write about beauty with authority for an informed professional audience. A collegial personality is essential as the job includes working with other members of the Vogue Business editorial team and external contributors.
The Team
Vogue Business was launched by Condé Nast in 2019 to help fashion and beauty professionals stay ahead of the trends shaping the industry. We offer a global perspective on fashion and beauty, tapping into the authority and cultural connectedness of the Vogue brand.
The Beauty Editor will report to the Executive European Editor while working closely with the entire editorial team.
What will you be doing?
Oversee the running of the weekly Beauty Edit newsletter, including planning the content, collating data and writing the editor’s letter
Write at least two stories a week on emerging trends in the beauty industry, pivoting to important breaking news as and when necessary
Regularly interview CEOs, CMOs, founders and high-profile executives of major beauty brands, startups and conglomerates
Write investigative, longer-format articles with a wide range of sources on a broader industry issue
Build and maintain sources across the industry
Collaborate with other editors and journalists on the editorial team and bring a can-do attitude to the workplace
Source images, video and/or charts to enhance our story-telling across the website and social platforms
Help build Vogue Business’s coverage and profile with new formats and series
Host and build forums, podcasts and events with key industry figures
Collaborate with other members of the Vogue Business team for dual byline stories
Work across our other content pillars (eg fashion, sustainability, tech) when required
Who you are:
Able to demonstrate solid reporting background in business, trends and beauty
Have knowledge of the beauty industry, from small brands to big luxury conglomerates, PRs and creative and marketing agencies
Have a growing network of contacts, including C-level executives
Some knowledge of the fashion industry, though not essential if the candidate has the right beauty/business reporting skills
An ideas generator, eager to uncover original stories and angles
Ability to write copy to a high standard and be confident working to tight deadlines in a fast-moving digital newsroom
Have a keen interest in exploring and reporting on new products, brands and conglomerates and uncovering industry trends
Be able to juggle next-day news stories alongside investigative longer-format articles
A collaborative working style
Fluency in a second language is a plus
Have a global viewpoint–insight and networks beyond the UK industry is required
Have experience working with digital tools, including CMS and newsletter platforms
Where will you be?
We encourage hybrid working but when you are in the office, this role will be primarily based in the wonderful Adelphi building with breathtaking views over the Thames and next to the hustle and bustle of The Strand.
