Your New Role...
Responsible for developing new ideas, working with writers, and interfacing with editorial counterparts at publishing houses and interfacing with other members of the publishing community.
Your Role Accountabilities...
Develops, edits, and manages a list of approximately 8-10 titles per year with supervision from Sr. Editorial staff. This includes providing line and overarching edits to authors; writing detailed plot and character outlines for ghostwritten and development projects; writing and editing cover and promotional copy; maintaining author and publisher schedules.
Pitches and develops story and property ideas, from one-liners to full plot treatments. Development goal is to sell 2-4 original projects per year.
Initiates and maintains relationships with writers (for existing and new projects), editors, publishers, and agents.
Performs additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience...
Work Experience
Minimum 3 years experience in editorial, preferably in book publishing. Experience in children’s/YA/women’s fiction a plus.
Experience in development preferred.
Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification
High School diploma or equivalent required
BA/BS degree
Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of the marketplace, in publishing, film, and television.
Ability to manage complex book schedules with tight deadlines
Ability to participate in managing the development process
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Other Requirements
Established relationships with writers and agents
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work well with a team as well as independently
Flexibility to work extended hours to accommodate crash schedules.
