Multi-Skilled Journalist/Producer

WFAA is looking for a creative and ambitious MSJ/producer to join the WFAA news team. The ideal candidate will be a key contributor to the overall content strategy for our sports department as a reporter, photojournalist, and producer, with some fill-in anchor responsibilities.

A successful candidate must be eager to tell great stories on their own or with a team by capturing creative video & audio elements that produce compelling and engaging news, sports, and feature stories in a deadline environment. This person will also be the lead producer responsible for coordinating and producing a weekly, sponsored high school sports special.

Responsibilities

MSJ/report daily storiesAnchor sports shows as neededCollaborate with sports director, news managers, news producers, production team, and control room team on show content and execution of weekly sponsored sports show and daily sportscastsCreate and manage show rundowns, line produce daily/weekly showsShoot and edit content for nightly newscastsPropose original, timely and innovative content ideasCreate, write content for digital and social media platformsCoordinate sponsored elements in showsPerform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field5 years experience reportingStrong writing backgroundUnderstanding of the tenants of professional journalismA portfolio with examples of breaking and enterprise news/sports reportingKnowledge of non-linear editing systems (Edius, Premier)Familiar with newsroom production systems (ENPS or equivalent)Ability to use a MSJ cameraEffective knowledge of digital/social platformsDemonstrate strong news judgement in editorial conversationsStrong work ethic, positive attitude, and reliableMust be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidaysKnowledge of Dallas-Fort Worth sports is a plusBe actively involved in the north Texas communityOrganizational skills and the ability to work under constant time-sensitive deadlinesTravel: Rarely: less than 10%Work Environment Set: Outdoors: performed in various outdoor environmental conditionsPhysical Demands Set: Medium work: Involves standing prolong hours, stooping, bending, lifting/pushing up to 25 lbs.
