As part of the Business Development and Strategy department, the Digital Content team provides GBH’s diverse content production, journalism and business units with strategic guidance, audience development support, digital content production and support for disciplined experimentation for all the above. The team is a dynamic, versatile group of digital producers with skills in digital video, social media, email, and website content development.

JOB OVERVIEW

Boston’s public media station GBH is hiring a talented producer, shooter and editor to fuel video production for GBH’s Digital Content unit. GBH is looking for someone with experience developing, producing, shooting and editing video for digital entertainment and social platforms including YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and who is excited to learn more. An understanding of digital video storytelling and platform-specific features and best practices is essential.

Part video producer and part hands-on video editor, the candidate should be just as comfortable participating in creative brainstorms, script writing and managing shoot logistics as they are spending a full day editing. Attention to detail and a mastery of narrative, spelling, punctuation, news writing and AP Style are required. Ideal candidates will have a strong sense of graphic design and fluency creating motion graphics in After Effects.

This is a hybrid role based in Boston. The Producer/Editor must be available for meetings and shoots at GBH’s studios and able to attend shoots on location in greater Boston, often on short notice.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Produce, shoot and edit digital video quickly and efficiently in a variety of formats.

Embed with other teams at GBH to support their digital video efforts.

Manage projects from start to finish.

Review edited video and revise as directed by Supervising Producer.

Conceive and create motion graphics independently.

Proactively stay on top of trends/best practices for key video channels and develop new creative ideas and approaches regularly

Manage priorities to meet deadlines.

Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure adherence to brand standards.

Responsible for implementing diversity goals and benchmarks for digital video content (in coordination with content diversity initiatives being implemented across GBH).

Build consensus for, interest in, and production proficiency in digital video production across GBH.

Contribute to the communication and education around digital video at GBH.

SKILL SET

Creative visual storyteller and early adopter.

High level proficiency with video production tools, equipment and editing software including DSLRs, mobile video rigs, Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop and After Effects. Experience with AR and AI tools a plus.

The ability to determine when to use which gear to capture stories in the most visually compelling way possible.

A strong eye and knowledge of how to shoot and edit sequences and scenes to create compelling narratives.

YouTube-specific expertise, including SEO and video optimization best practices.

Fluency in production and production management, including managing schedules, scripting, reviews and deliverables.

Ability to translate goals and audience insights into high-quality videos.

Ability to find a story, pull out our unique angle, and communicate to audiences why it matters in an inspiring, educational and informative manner.

Ability to consistently produce results under pressure in a fast-paced environment both as an individual contributor, and in a team environment.

Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.

Passion for animation, documentary film, and public television.

Proven track record of growing audiences on digital and social video platforms, for a series or a channel.

Ability to work various shifts and times, including evening and special events as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.

3-5 years of experience producing, shooting and editing digital video for social and entertainment platforms.

Experience with vertical video production, with a sharp eye for what works and the ability to find innovative ways to push boundaries of the format.

Experience with live streaming production, such as Twitch and TikTok Live

Experience producing educational or youth-focused content a plus.​
