Senior Writer, Politics and Policy, WIRED

New Posted 20 September 2022 | New York, NY | WIRED

WIRED is where tomorrow is realized. It is the essential source of information and ideas that make sense of a world in constant transformation. The WIRED conversation illuminates how technology is changing every aspect of our lives—from culture to business, science to design. The breakthroughs and innovations that we uncover lead to new ways of thinking, new connections, and new industries. WIRED reaches more than 30 million people each month through WIRED.com, our digital edition, the magazine, social media, and live events. The intersection of technology, politics, and regulation plays a vital role in the future of democracy, and determines whether rapid technological change will do more harm or more good to society. WIRED seeks a writer to cover that confluence of issues, with a focus on the people driving change and those most affected by it. This journalist will lead our coverage of the growing antitrust scrutiny of Big Tech, the broader evolution of tech regulation, and how platforms and political forces interact. As the 2022 midterms approach in the US, you’ll examine everything from the influence of crypto-funded PACs to innovations in get-out-the-vote technology. You should have strong feelings about such issues as Section 230 or which cryptocurrencies should count as securities, a keen interest in the status of various FTC investigations, and an understanding of how data privacy laws have evolved in both the US and EU. We’re not interested in the horse-race aspects of politics; we care about how legislative and regulatory decisions at local, national, and international levels come about, and how they affect people’s lives in ways both overt and insidious. You’ll have lots of room to roam, and will work closely with editors to identify the sharpest angles on the most pressing stories in DC, Brussels, and beyond.
