WIRED is where tomorrow is realized. It is the essential source of information and ideas that make sense of a world in constant transformation. The WIRED conversation illuminates how technology is changing every aspect of our lives—from culture to business, science to design. The breakthroughs and innovations that we uncover lead to new ways of thinking, new connections, and new industries. WIRED reaches more than 30 million people each month through WIRED.com, our digital edition, the magazine, social media, and live events. Technology touches every part of everyday life, and influences many of the most important stories in the world. WIRED seeks a writer who is adept at covering its many facets, from internet culture outbursts to algorithms gone awry to consumer tech breakthroughs. This role will roam across all of WIRED’s coverage areas, working with editors to identify stories that we’re not covering but should, finding sharp angles, and reporting them out. It’s an opportunity for a news omnivore with impeccable story sense to write across any number of topics, ideally developing mini-beats along the way. You could find yourself interviewing meme creators, dissecting Jeopardy! game theory, or getting deep in the weeds of a 5G rollout. This is not a blogging job; candidates should realistically aim to write 2-3 timely, well-reported stories per week. You’ll have the opportunity to pitch longform features as well, but the primary responsibility will be covering the news.
