WOOD-TV, WOTV, AND WXSP, the NBC, ABC and MyNet affiliates in Grand Rapids, Michigan is looking for an aggressive, innovative, and creative newscast producer to join our team. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of crafting newscasts that address the needs of our West Michigan audience. The producer must be a leader with an optimistic outlook and a winning attitude.
The producer must have a solid foundation in English grammar and spelling. In addition to writing and producing, the producer should have an understanding of video editing. Candidates must be willing to work overnights and weekends.
The Producer, under the guidance of the Executive Producer, organizes and writes the on-air newscast, deciding the order in which stories will be told and how each story will be presented, all under strict deadlines.
Additional Job Description:
Produces newscasts for broadcast across all platforms
Writes and orders news stories
Approves scripts
You will contribute to the editorial process and make solid decisions in breaking news situations
Balances news and feature content to create compelling broadcasts
Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
Fluency in English
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Minimum two years’ experience in news operations
Must be able to interact well with reporters/MMJs, anchors, photojournalists, news managers, production and engineering staff
Detail oriented
Strong news judgment, journalistic integrity and understanding of viewer needs and expectations
Utilize state-of-the-art television technology. Experience with ENPS, BitCentral and Premiere a plus.
Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Schedule may include evenings and weekends
