The weekly newspaper in Wrangell, Alaska, population 2,000 wet souls in the Tongass National Forest (a temperate rainforest), needs a reporter, someone who can cover City Hall and make the stories relevant; someone who can do features on a wide assortment of interesting people; someone who enjoys finding and reporting news and learning about people. Photography skills help. The 121-year-old Wrangell Sentinel has a three-person staff; you would join a full-time reporter and full-time office manager who handles ad sales and circulation. The publisher provides remote editing and guidance, writes a weekly column, fills in as needed, and covers the bills so that the paper can afford to produce a quality product. No chain stores or brewpub in town, buts lots of fresh seafood. What is important is that you enjoy reporting -- and can live in a small town. Call or email Larry at paper@alaskan.com, cell 907-351-8276. No texts, please (I do not do emojis). Consider applying this week. An adventure awaits. The job is open in January.
