Middle East Correspondent

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a reporter to cover the Persian Gulf and Saudi Arabia from inside the kingdom, one of the most challenging and rewarding beats abroad.

Home to Islam’s holiest sites, and one of the world’s biggest energy producers, Saudi Arabia has become a muscular presence in the Middle East. At the same time, a powerful yet impatient crown prince is driving significant change at home. We're looking for someone to capture these changes through scoops, news features and big thoughtful enterprise projects. The halting economic transformation of the world’s No. 1 oil exporter would be a core part of the beat, as would stories on Saudi Arabia’s rivalry with Iran and the heightened regional tensions that have come with it. We need an ambitious journalist with an unflagging appetite for getting to the bottom of a big story. If you speak Arabic, you will have an edge.
