We are looking for a reporter to join the Yorkshire Live team, based in or near Huddersfield. You will be brilliant at reporting live news and have the ability to spot and source great stories and turn them into clean, crisp and accurate content that engages our audience and is relatable and relevant to their lives.
Working closely with our content desk and team of reporters, you’ll help run live breaking news coverage and write breaking stories quickly, accurately and with flair, posting updates and sharing your stories engagingly on our social media and newsletter platforms.
It’s a position that would be the right fit for an ambitious senior journalist with strong live reporting, copy-tasting and social media skills, as well as a sharp news sense. You’ll have the experience, confidence and accuracy to publish news updates live and at pace.
We are able to offer a development pathway into this role at trainee reporter level if you have NCTJ-accredited preliminary journalism qualifications including media law.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Find and tell stories about breaking news incidents in and around Huddersfield in a way that engages and is relevant to local audiences
Build a presence online, on social media and in real life to share live breaking news updates with local readers and engage with their feedback
Tell stories in many different ways, including (but not limited to) real-time live blogs, written articles, pictures and video
Uphold Reach's policy around diversity and inclusion and work to ensure our values around non discrimination are upheld in everything we publish.
Ensure every piece of content is thoroughly researched, accurate and balanced prior to publication, in accordance with the Editor’s Code of practice
Qualifications
Ideally, you’ll be a senior journalist and will have passed NCTJ-accredited qualifications including news writing, media law and 100wpm shorthand.
Reach plc or equivalent journalist qualification (or relevant time-served experience)
Demonstrable experience of writing breaking news for online audiences, including live reporting experience
Keen news sense and instinct for writing engaging headlines that capture attention
Understanding of SEO and search trends around breaking and live news
Great social media savvy and professional experience of using social media platforms
Digital publishing experience including using a content management system
Ability to work well as part of a team
Ability to work quickly and effectively at pace and under deadline pressure
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Flexibility to work as part of a rota of early, late and weekend shifts
Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
Up-to-date knowledge of media law and IPSO code
Full driving licence
