Ben Luthi

Freelance Writer at U.S. News & World Report

I first developed a passion for personal finance when I read Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover in college. I graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and a minor in German.

During my last year and a half of college, I was an intern at Northwestern Mutual. I sold life insurance and created comprehensive personal financial plans for clients.

I started blogging and freelancing in 2013. In 2015, I started working as a staff writer at NerdWallet. While there, I worked with an amazing team writing about credit cards and giving personal finance advice directly to consumers.

Then in 2017, I became a staff writer at Student Loan Hero and freelanced on the side. In 2018, I started freelancing full-time.

I specialize in credit cards, but also write about all things personal finance. I’m passionate about helping people gain clarity in their finances and to take actionable steps to improve their lives.

I live in Lehi, Utah, with my two kids, and love the outdoors, reading, homemade nachos, and The Office. I also run the travel blog The Thrifty Wanderer, co-host the podcast Just One More Trip and help run The Freelance Writer Academy.
