
John Bonifield

John Bonifield is a supervising producer for the CNN Medical Unit, bringing over two decades of experience in health journalism and video storytelling. Since joining CNN, he has produced compelling editorial content across television and digital platforms, reaching more than 2 billion people worldwide.
In 2015, he produced an Emmy-nominated Anderson Cooper 360 investigation that exposed injuries and deaths at a pediatric open-heart surgery program. He has also been on the ground for several major natural disasters, field-producing coverage of the Houston floods in 2017, the Zika virus outbreak in Puerto Rico in 2016, the Ebola outbreak in Liberia in 2014, Hurricane Irene in 2011, and the Haiti earthquake in 2010.
His work extends beyond breaking news, with human interest stories that have resonated widely, including A Real ‘Fault in Our Stars’ Couple and Heaven Over Hospital: Dying Girl, Age 5, Makes a Choice, both from 2015, as well as Surrogate Mom Offered $10K to Abort Baby in 2013. He has also conceived and pitched two CNN documentaries: The Empowered Patient: 25 Shocking Medical Mistakes in 2012 and Happiness and Your Health: The Surprising Connection in 2006.
John earned a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
