  • Nostalgic Diners: Come for the Eggs, Stay for the Experience
    18 Feb 2024—arcamax.com
In 1872, in Providence, Rhode Island, Walter Scott began selling takeout food from a horse-drawn wagon at dusk. He attracted late-shift workers, theatergoers and others who were out and about after dark. Based upon his success, a factory soon began building "lunch wagons." These were followed, in turn, by converted railway dining cars. After that, during the 1920s to 1940s, came modest buildings featuring art deco and streamline moderne elements that copied the appearance of those cars. After...
  • Visit and Learn During American Indian Heritage Month
    21 Oct 2023—arcamax.com
Several adventurous travelers clamber aboard an amphibious vehicle for a trip through shady swamplands seeking sightings of bison, panthers and other four-legged denizens. Not far away people watch in awe as a daring wrestler pulls an alligator out of the water and grapples it to the ground. Later these sightseers are introduced to ages-old traditions of the local residents that include dances, foods and rituals. These folks are enjoying one of the most intriguing and often overlooked tourism...
  • Hiking Through History
    5 Aug 2023—creators.com

Wagon trains joined the migration, and the deep ruts they made in the ground are still visible in some places along the route. People who wish to relive those pioneer days can follow sections of the storied...
  • Scotland -- A world of rugged nature and an amazing history.
    2 Sep 2023—travelersunitedplus.com
The first thing one notices in Scotland is its natural beauty. Both the Highlands and Central Scotland are home to craggy mountains, rolling farmlands dotted by grazing sheep, and the still waters of lochs (lakes). We agreed with a poll conducted by Rough Travel Guides which included Scotland among the “Most beautiful countries in the world.” Contrasting with that, tranquility is a history that is replete with battles against a parade of invaders and tyrants. And during pauses among those...
  • History Lives Along the Lower Mississippi River
    9 Jul 2023—creators.com
Our room rivaled those in many an upscale hotel. Food and table settings were five-star. The list of activities in our temporary home-away-from-home covered a diversity of interests. We had opportunities to explore inviting towns that provided deep dives into Civil War and other history and to visit magnificent antebellum plantations. Adding to the allure of our Lower Mississippi River Cruise was the chance to explore museums that brought to life prehistoric times, Native American and African...
