With a strong commitment to accessible higher education, Dr. Cardelle focused on developing student-centered programs across academic units that encourage innovative approaches to student learning and teaching. He is a staunch champion of the core values of diversity, equity and inclusion. Prior to his career in higher education, Cardelle spent a decade working on health care issues with the World Health Organization, the American Medical Student Association, UNICEF and Oxfam America.

The college experienced a COVID-19 outbreak impacting hundreds of students in the fall of 2020, and is navigating a new semester amid the rise of the delta variant. The new president — who takes over for interim president Dennis Craig — spoke with WAMC’s Jesse King.
