Alex is the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at Upstream. He previously was the Co-founder and CEO of SocialRank (acquired by Trufan). Prior to that Alex led business development and partnerships for online integrations at Dwolla, a payments startup based in Iowa. As well as for Aviary (acquired by Adobe), a NY-based startup that provides a photo editing API for web and mobile devices.
Upstream has raised at an $80 million valuation from investors including Boldstart, Tiger Global and Gary Vaynerchuk for software tools to launch and manage Web3 collectives known as “DAOs.”
The issue with DAOs is they are really hard to start. Think of websites in the 1980s. We think DAOs will end up being the next LLC. This market is so big that even if we suck at it, which we won’t, we would still have a positive outcome as a company. We’re early in one of the seismic shifts, similar to the internet and then mobile. Ownership and Web3 is going to be as big as those things. I’m betting my career on it.
