Amanda Rue is a connection & pleasure coach, facilitator and business consultant. Her work invites us to release shame and come into a more conscious connection with pleasure and healing. She also performs under the pseudonym, Rev.Rucifer and promotes practices of sacred sexuality through workshops, events and private sessions, including Sensual Reiki and Reiki Bondage, a BDSM-inspired healing practice.

She is also the creator of The Shift Work Shop, a human resource consultancy offering consent-foward sexual harassment prevention and anti-sexist training for progressive workplaces. After speaking out about her own experience of sexual misconduct in the workplace with the New York Times, she now helps others to develop tools, strategies and programs designed to empower all employees and business owners to cultivate cultures of respect, personal agency and clear communication.

She has helped thousands of people from all over the world uncover their pleasure within and develop practices that cultivate personal safety, care and respect. Amanda has made it her life's work to help individuals, organizations and companies to embrace all that life has to offer through meaningful dialogue, transformative change and the pursuit of pleasure.   • Sexism is most often the result of cultural conditioning based on the dominant culture and those that are in leadership and power positions. We often assume that male equates to 'hearty' while female often equates to 'dainty' or 'lighter'. This is conditioning that is developed as part of cultural society based on societal norms, media influence and reinforced stereotypes of gender through generations.

    Many of our biases toward gendered ordering at restaurants are related to traditional beauty standards that are upheld and reinforced by the dominant patriarchal society. In this world, [it is often assumed that] men eat more and consume more meat while women eat less (and healthier foods) to conform to traditional beauty standards of thinness.

  • We have learned on numerous occasions that companies will make empty promises in an effort to protect the brand and thwart any potential PR disasters. A company pledge should not just be an empty promise, but rather a process of accountability from the top down to ensure transformative change is not only adopted, but implemented and upheld over time.

    At its core, issues like this arise because the culture is not built on mutual respect and willing accountability. Accountability is a process of addressing harm that requires individuals to take responsibility for their behavior while creating measurable change and compliance with company policies and standards.

    Standard annual sexual harassment training is not enough. We need to build cultures that are built on honest communication and consent. When all employees have [more power] in the workplace, we can begin to create safer company cultures that are free from harassment of all kinds.

  • ...it just goes to show that there needs to be more than just annual prevention training, there needs to be accountability processes, and ways for people to learn and grow and be able to take care of each other and these workplaces.
