CEO and Co-founder, Brad Gutwein has a strong philosophy: “Do good, brew good.” Since establishing the family-owned roastery in 2007, he's been committed to ethical sourcing, environmental sustainability, and philanthropic efforts, including support for space programs and nurturing future innovators.
Copper Moon's story began in the early 1900s when he and his brother and co-founder Cary's ancestors immigrated from Austria-Hungary and established Gutwein Milling Company in Indiana. Over the decades, the business evolved from milling flour to focusing on livestock feed. In the late 80s and early 90s, Brad and Cary joined the business full-time, leveraging their extensive hands-on experience working summers and weekends when they were growing up. They successfully pivoted the company to wild bird food, leading to an acquisition by Scotts Miracle-Gro in 2005.
With a strong foundation in commodity production, the Gutweins saw an opportunity in coffee—a recession-proof product and a personal passion. Continuing their family legacy, they have built Copper Moon Coffee into a national brand, available through their website, Amazon, and retailers like Costco and Sam’s Club.
