As job duties change during the pandemic, don’t forget to update job descriptions. When thoughtfully crafted, these documents can be used for conducting workforce planning, setting salary and grade levels, and meeting compliance requirements.
More companies in 2021 will adopt virtual recruiting technologies, shift talent attraction efforts to remote candidates, consider internal talent pools, and focus on diversity, equity and inclusion.
Job interviews will largely continue to be conducted virtually. Even for businesses resuming in-person operations, I expect that virtual and automated interviews will instead replace many in-person touchpoints, helping to accelerate timelines while also providing a critical layer of safety as we continue to observe social distancing rules.
It’s more important than ever to capture all the essential functions you’re asking people to do so your employees can be very clear on what’s expected of them. Clearly outlining what someone needs to do in a role [and] setting expectations gives them a tangible measure of success. It’s also a great time to reassess the skills needed to perform the actual job. There might be some [skills] that you realize you need more of based on changing business needs, or some that are no longer necessary for the same reason.
