Carla Gannis is an interdisciplinary artist and educator. She produces virtual and physical works that are darkly comical in their contemplation of human, earthly and cosmological conditions. Gannis’s work has appeared in exhibitions, screenings and internet projects across the globe. Recent projects include “Portraits in Landscape,” Midnight Moment, Times Square Arts, NY and “Sunrise/Sunset,” Whitney Museum of American Art, Artport.
We really need to think, as we're thinking about the metaverse, about accountability, thinking about, are we just going to perpetuate the problems we have in grounded or, base reality, into this metaverse? The ills of human culture and society can be persistent, unless we're actually thinking ethically about these things.
The metaverse is Silicon Valley's latest obsession, but it will need to come with guardrails to prevent the kind of abuses that plague social media platforms.
