  • Blue Paint: Best Used in South or East-Facing Rooms
Catherine advises, "North-facing rooms tend to have a cool tone." She suggests warm colors like red or orange instead of blue. Blue is better for south-facing rooms with bright light or east-facing rooms, where it acts as a fresh, light tone in the morning.
  • Japandi Decor: The Fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian Design
Catherine explains, “Japandi combines Japanese 'wabi-sabi' and Danish 'hygge' for a minimalist, chic aesthetic.” Featuring warm neutrals, sustainable materials, and artisanal craftsmanship, this style promotes well-being through clutter-free, functional spaces. Japandi's emphasis on quality and nature makes it a responsible design choice, reflecting the beauty of the outdoors with earthy tones and natural wood finishes.
  • Wallpapering Textured Walls: Expert Tips for a Flawless Finish
Catherine advises, "Smoothing walls before wallpapering avoids lumps." Choose wallpaper that masks imperfections. For orange peel textures, sand and prime. Popcorn textures should be removed. Knockdown textures need sanding and priming. Rough cement or plaster requires smoothing. Clean, fill, sand, and prime for best results. Visit Hovia for more tips.

'One of the reasons the rustic modern aesthetic is so appealing is that it combines sentimentality with beauty and function,' says Catherine Jacob, Head of Design at sustainable interior design company Hovia.

'Combining beauty and function via upcycled furniture continues to be a popular theme for home decor, and the trend lends itself effectively to achieving the rustic modern vibe,' says Jacob.
She continues, 'Treating the wood and adding new handles or feet to the dresser brings new life to antique or vintage industrial furniture and is a great way to achieve the rustic vibe whilst decorating sustainably and responsibly. Decorating with a “make-do” mentality, so upcycling and finding affordable, on-trend solutions are a great way to hit this trend with a unique piece.'

She adds: 'The rustic modern vibe is also about comfort and functionality; you’ll often find a mish-mash of items that each contribute something unique to the overall aesthetic of the home.'

'The great thing about displaying kitchen items in open shelving is that they can instantly bring color, texture, and interest to a space,' says Catherine Jacob, Head of Design at Hovia. 'For example, use it to display your spices. From the warming shades of turmeric, nutmeg, and paprika to refreshing basil and mouth-watering mint, adding transparent spice containers to this shelf can bring color and energy to an otherwise unused space.'

In order to keep shelves looking neat and tidy, Jacob recommends planning out which objects will be displayed prior to placing them on the storage units.

'To make the most of your shelving, estimate how many containers you’ll need and then opt for ones that can sit practically alongside each other on the shelf while also looking aesthetically pleasing,' she says.

'Open shelves aren’t to be underestimated when it comes to storage solutions for small kitchens,' Jacob says. 'The fact that you have to consciously select the item that fits in this space means that the presentation of it becomes purposeful; it’s a statement feature on the wall. Open shelves are a great option for items you use most frequently, as it allows them to be readily accessible, whilst also keeping worktops clear of clutter… what’s not to love!'

'From joyful pink to rose tones, the color pink can help influence an array of moods across the home, depending on the shade you go for,' says Catherine Jacob, the head of design at Hovia. 'Vibrant pink colors can be an excellent option for those looking to brighten up a room with a maximalist approach while subtle pink hues can help create a relaxing and calming atmosphere.'

'Pink works especially well when paired with colors such as blue, white, and cream,' she explains. 'However, if you are looking to achieve a more maximalist look, don’t be afraid to get creative by introducing greens and yellows into your space. We are still seeing the ripple effect of Barbiecore moving through from fashion to interiors. Additionally, celebrity figures, such as Cara Delevigne, have been seen to favor vibrant and bold color choices across their home, proving that it is still popular to go all in with color.'

'Depending on your interior aspirations as well as the purpose of the room, there are a handful of ways you can style a pink space,' Jacob states. 'Styling complimentary colors together through soft furnishings and home accessories while adding atmospheric lighting and natural elements such as houseplants, are just some examples of how you can enhance your pink space to create a more homely and comfortable feel.'
