Chandra Srivastava is Chief Marketing Officer and a founding member of Calque, a fintech company that pioneered the simplest and most cost-effective buy-before-you-sell process to date with its flagship product: The Trade-In Mortgage. The Trade-In Mortgage helps homeowners optimize the home purchase process and reduce costs by using their current home equity to make a competitive, all-cash, non-contingent offer on a new home before selling their existing home.

With a PhD in Marketing, Chandra is a “pracademic” who spans the academic and practitioner worlds, adeptly applying her marketing agency experience and customer-orientation research to deliver high-quality marketing campaigns driven by analytics. As a founding member at Calque, Chandra created the company’s marketing strategy from the ground up, building a solid foundation that enables the team to lean into meaningful customer insights to build credibility with consumers and synergy with partners. She is an adamant believer in revolutionizing the mortgage space to simplify the home buying experience.

  • Retirees: Unlock Home Equity for Mortgage Success
Chandra advises retirees to use existing home equity to make non-contingent offers, akin to cash, for new homes. "Retirees need to submit an attractive, non-contingent offer," she says. With high interest rates, leveraging equity can reduce monthly payments. Homeownership aids wealth retention, but the choice to rent or own remains personal.

  • "As an economist by training, I’m always reading and thinking about news more generally, such as the Fed’s latest decisions, job reports, price of goods, etc., and considering how these may impact the housing market. I am a professor of marketing, and in this role, I have to update my curriculum every semester. Because much of my coursework is experiential, my students and I experience the changing marketing landscape in real time. Staying up-to-date with marketing isn’t a luxury; it’s a requirement of my job. With that said, no one can stay abreast of everything and I remain humbly aware of that!"

"In the field of marketing, I hope I can continue to be a ‘pracademic’ who spans both theory and practice. This allows me to bring theory, frameworks, and the latest research to marketing implementation in the 'real world.' In the real estate and mortgage industry, I hope to make ‘buy before you sell’ commonplace and the de facto method for homeowners who want to move. This would be a huge shift for the industry, but it would make consumers’ lives so much easier (and I am committed to supporting an option that is affordable)."
