Curtis Knittle
As Vice President of Wired Technologies at CableLabs, Curtis and his team are responsible for specifying scalable deployment solutions in both HFC and all-fiber access networks for CableLabs member companies. DOCSIS® technologies, Distributed Access Architectures, Coherent Optics, and Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) are a few current high-priority activities underway and led by members of the Wired Technologies team. Curtis was also the Chair of the IEEE 802.3ca 50G-EPON Task Force, helping to usher in the first 50Gb/s PON solution.
Curtis holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico, and an M.S. and B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Colorado State University.

"Everyone asks me, 'What are consumers going to do with that much speed?" to which I reply, “I don’t know!” I wish I did know, but I don’t. But one thing is certain, and that is people asked the same question when high speed data service tiers jumped up to 1 Mbps, and then again to 10 Mbps, and then 100 Mbps, and so on. You see, I believe the network was able to support these capacities before an application was created that required the capacities. Make sense? In other words, the 10G Platform is a platform for innovation, a platform that will encourage innovation in the form of new applications, new uses for all of that capacity."
