Entrepreneurship runs in Dan Reitman’s blood. It began in elementary school, where he would buy candy at Costco and sell it to kids on his bus for a sizable markup. His first business venture came after he realized animals are his passion. Working as a veterinary technician at an animal hospital years ago, he discovered there was a need for quality petcare. Dan’s Dog Walking and Pet Sitting was born in 2009. Today it’s a full- service pet care company that has flourished across Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island and Connecticut, with plans to expand across the country. His exemplary business savvy and customer service skills caught the attention of Pet Sitters International, which named him Pet Sitter of the Year in 2021. Reitman has always used the business skills he learned at Hofstra University, where he studied entrepreneurship and biology, to help him bring in over a million dollars in revenue annually from more than twenty five hundred clients. His marketing savvy led him to produce an innovative pet podcast called Let’s Talk About Cool Animals!, which has generated not only more business but a growing community of pet lovers.
Daniel Reitman, owner of Dan’s Dog Walking and Pet Sitting in Port Washington, has been named Pet Sitter of the Year by Pet Sitters International.
Each month we feature a PSI member to help you learn more about their #petsitterlife and provide you with some tips for your own business. This month we're featuring Daniel Reitman, owner of Dan's Dog Walking and Pet Sitting.
When one man wanted to give tennis balls to dog owners, it started a movement that no one expected.
I hope that the growth of my company from a one-man show to a larger scale operation—with much more planned for the future—will help inspire other companies to power through and grow, especially in our current climate. As Pet Sitter of the Year I want to share ways those in our industry can grow their businesses, both ethically and responsibly.
