Derrick is an innovative, insightful and ambitious thought leader. As the author of his inaugural work, “Son, You Matter,” Derrick hopes to encourage young Black and Brown boys to unlock the greatness that is already within them. He has a particular passion for working with diverse populations that have significant barriers to include, children, youth and young adults, limited education, homelessness, criminal history, unemployed, underemployed or seeking a career change. Derrick hopes to empower others with the skills to improve their quality of life and be successful. In addition, he enjoys brokering relationships with employers, businesses community partners and corporate organizations in an attempt to identify employment, internships, housing or other learning opportunities for individuals residing in urban communities.
It was written to remind my niece and all little children that learn “differently” that they are seen, valued, important and loved.
