Dr. del Toro is a Medical Oncologist at GenesisCare. She is a board-certified Hematologist Oncologist with great passion for her specialty. Dr. del Toro began her educational journey majoring in chemistry at Boston University in Boston Massachusetts. She then went on to study medicine in Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico graduating as a member of the honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. From there, Dr. del Toro went on to specialize in Internal Medicine at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana where she also did her fellowships in Medical Oncology and Hematology.

In the first trimester the baby is developing it’s organs so if there’s an indication to give chemotherapy, we try to avoid it in the first trimester because that will definitely be toxic to the fetus. There hasn’t been a lot of evidence to suggest fetal malformations and so on but there is some association with pre-term delivery.
