Dr. Deanna J. Attai is an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles. After completing her undergraduate education at Vassar College, she graduated with honors from the Georgetown University School of Medicine and then completed her General Surgery Residency at Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Attai is a Past-President of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Undergoing a mastectomy with or without reconstruction is often a very personal choice. We found that for a subset of women, 'going flat' is a desired and intentional option, which should be supported by the treatment team and should not imply that women who forgo reconstruction are not concerned with their post-operative appearance.23 September 2021
