Pet Trainer and Veterinarian with TeachMe.To. Dr. Gabre Denton is a veterinarian with over 7 years experience in a general practice setting in San Diego and New York City. His key passion is surgery, but also prides himself on delivering well rounded quality veterinary care in all aspects of the job. Originally from Australia, Dr Denton's interest in becoming a vet developed from a young age where he grew up surrounded by animals on his family farm. Dr. Gabre graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery from Murdoch University in 2016. He also volunteers at Animal Haven, a nonprofit organization for rehabilitating and training abandoned cats and dogs in the Tri-State area.

  • Expert Tips to Help Your Dog Sleep Better
Dr. Denton advises that anxiety, pain, or insufficient exercise can disrupt a dog's sleep. To rule out health issues, visit the vet and perform lab work. For better sleep, ensure exercise, a comfy bed, and a calming environment. "Calming treats, CBD, or melatonin may help but consult your vet first." Consistency and a bedtime routine are key.
  • Rising Pet Costs Lead to Increase in Pet Dumping
Dr. Gabre notes a significant rise in pet abandonment, correlating with increased pet costs. Rover's 2024 report highlights annual dog care costs from $1,000 to $5,225. "Rising pet food prices, up to 130% for cat food, contribute to this trend."
  • Veterinarian Dr. Gabre Denton Shares Fall and Winter Dog Health Tips
Dr. Gabre advises keeping dogs away from decorative pumpkins, toxic plants, and Halloween treats. Dogs can suffer from fall allergies and seasonal depression, showing signs like itching, lethargy, and appetite changes. To keep them active, try indoor games, shorter walks, and warm clothing. Consult a vet for allergy management and maintain routines to combat seasonal depression.
