Dr. Jeff Chen, MD, is a physician-scientist leading some of history's largest clinical trials on supplements and natural health products. As a trusted advocate of plant medicine, he has been consulted by Congresses, leading academic and scientific institutions, physician groups, and more. He recently was invited by TED to give a talk at the main conference about the importance of clinical trials for natural medicines.
As the cofounder and CEO of Radicle Science, he has made clinical trials easily accessible and affordable for natural health products. Radicle Science was recently named a World Changing Idea by Fast Company, among other accolades. Previously, Dr. Jeff was the founder of the UCLA Cannabis Research Initiative, one of the first in the world. Under his leadership as Executive Director, the initiative grew to encompass more than 40 faculty conducting research, education, and policy projects.
He is a published author in supplements, cannabinoid, oncology, and radiology research, and his writings have been published by media outlets including TED. Dr. Jeff was named a “Globalshaper” by the World Economic Forum and a Mentor for U.S. National Institutes of Health I-CORPs startup accelerator. Dr. Jeff is also a medical advisor to Healthline.
Dr. Jeff has been previously interviewed by CNN, TIME, NPR, Rolling Stone, Wall Street Journal, NBC News, CBS Sunday and more for his research and expertise. Dr. Jeff travels across 5 continents to speak at venues ranging from the Mexico Senate to the Royal Court of the Kingdom of Bhutan to SXSW, and he's guest lectured at universities such as Yale, Columbia, and NYU.
After graduating magnum cum laude from Cornell, Dr. Jeff attended medical school and business school concurrently at UCLA, where he is a David Geffen fellow.
Dr. Jeff Chen talks about how Radicle Science is revolutionizing the health and wellness industry by addressing the lack of clinical evidence for non-pharmaceutical products. With an innovative approach called the Radicle Proof Engine™, the company is making it easier for these products, such as dietary supplements, to prove their effectiveness. Unlike pharmaceutical drugs, non-pharmaceuticals have struggled to conduct costly and time-consuming traditional clinical trials, resulting in a “proof gap” in the data.
AI-driven health-tech company Radicle Science, in collaboration with Open Book Extracts (OBX), has unveiled the results of the largest-ever clinical trial investigating the effects of CBD on sleep outcomes and the largest trial of CBN-containing products. The trial involved 1,800 participants and aimed to assess the impact of various CBD products in comparison to melatonin.
Improving the cost and speed of clinical trials has been a long time coming. While plenty of hurdles remain, Radicle Science is doing it – all the while maintaining scientific rigor and bettering the generalizability of the findings.
We aim to support our mission of creating a movement that redefines the research paradigm and enables evidence-based decision making across the health and wellness industry, starting with cannabinoids.
