Dr. Oakes is a Board Member at American Academy of Clear Aligners. After graduating from the University of Maine in 2008, he briefly left his favorite state in order to pursue his life-long dream of becoming a dentist. In 2013, with his DMD Degree in hand, Dr. Oakes returned to Portland, Maine and began honing his skills in order to help patients get optimum care. Currently, he and his wife, Dr. Laura Oakes, own and run three highly active Aspen Dental offices in the Southern Maine area.
Poor oral hygiene and lack of care especially impact what is arguably the most underserved group in America: our country’s veterans. While most veterans primarily rely on health insurance from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, this insurance does not cover dental care unless a military veteran is one hundred percent disabled, has a service-related mouth injury, or was a prisoner of war. These restrictions leave thousands of veterans nationwide with little to no options when it comes to oral healthcare. Instead, it often falls on private dentists to help bridge this gap.
MAINE(WGME)-- Veterans around the state of Maine got free dental care from Aspen Dental in response to their 'Aspen Dental Day of Service'. The company's main goal is to honor veterans not only for their service, but to 'break down barriers' to health care. Around the state there were five locations that took part ranging from Portland to Waterville.
