Dr. Hummel holds a Ph.D. in Communication Studies: Critical Intercultural Communication, Gender/Sexuality Communication, Rhetoric and Performance Studies, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale; an M.A. in Communication Studies: Rhetoric and Civic Engagement, Colorado State University; and a B.A. in Communication Studies: Leadership & Social Influence; minor in Gender & Women’s Studies, Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. Professional interests include intersectionality, identity, and social justice activism; critical cosmopolitanism, transnationalism, and global-local dialectics; critical and participatory rhetorics; energetic communication; and qualitative, critical, and performative modes of communication inquiry. Former editor and current editorial board member of Kaleidoscope: A Graduate Journal of Qualitative Communication Research.
