Guanhua Yan is an associate professor of computer science at Binghamton University, State University of New York. Dr. Guanhua Yan earned his Ph.D. from Dartmouth College in 2005. He joined Binghamton University from Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, where he spent nine years, first as a Research Associate and then as a Research Scientist. His research interests include cybersecurity, big data, networking, and modeling & simulation.
Emails, texts and phone calls are still popular methods for scammers to get money but social media is the place where Americans are losing more money than any other method.
A new initiative led by Binghamton University aims to give local teachers the tools they need to help their students navigate through today’s cybersecurity risks.
“There are various tactics for scammers to get information from victims,” said Binghamton University Associate Professor Guanhua Yan. “Particularly those are social engineering tactics. People are always trying to exploit human weakness.”
