Harish Krishnamoorthy, an offshore wind technology expert, is an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Houston. He is a 2023 early-career research fellow in the Gulf Research Program (GRP) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Offshore Energy Safety track. With expertise in power electronics, power converters and offshore technologies, Krishnamoorthy was recognized as an “OTC Emerging Leader” at the 2022 Offshore Technology Conference. He is also associate director of the Power Electronics, Microgrids and Subsea Electric Systems Center (PEMSEC) at UH.
When there are so many electronics involved, safety and reliability are going to be very critical. I have been looking at safety aspects a lot in my research as well as how to connect subsea oil and gas systems with offshore renewable systems.
Without power conversion, you cannot really get energy from or efficiently from solar panels and wind turbines, you cannot charge electric vehicles, you cannot run motor drives in electric vehicles, because power electronics is an essential component.
I spoke to an electrical engineer about why your solar lights aren't working, and how to fix them
The importance of a reliable and resilient power supply continues to grow, and so does the need to control energy costs. That’s why more institutions want power systems that support operational efficiency
