I am a fertility lawyer and reproductive rights advocate assisting anyone pursuing assisted reproductive arrangements including surrogacy, egg donation, sperm donation, embryo donation, and adoption.
Reproductive rights are a very hotly debated topic, but in today’s episode, we’re discussing the intersection of abortion bans, IVF and fertility treatments, and ownership of embryos, especially in the context of a prenup. Julia is joined by Janene Oleaga, Esq., a family law attorney and Founder of Oleaga Law, LLC, a boutique law firm dedicated to family formation. Janene is one of the nation’s foremost experts in assisted reproductive technology and rights, including personhood laws, adoption, LGBT rights in parenthood, and so much more. We hope our conversation gives you talking points to discuss with your partner as you draft your prenup and prepare for your future. http://www.nyreproductionlawyer.com
For many same-sex couples, the cost to start a family is exorbitant and health insurance systems fall short.
Despite Trump saying this October that he is the “father of IVF,” those working in the industry aren’t convinced. Janene Oleaga, a New York fertility attorney, is worried about politicians expanding laws like the fetal personhood clause in Alabama that gave frozen embryos the same rights as children. “(Trump) is far from the father of IVF. But I’m not only concerned with federal legislation,” Oleaga said. “I’m fearful of what governors and politicians in red states will try to pass at the state level after being emboldened by Trump’s second presidency.”
