Dr. Kutcher is the Medical Director of Concussion and Sports Neurology at Henry Ford Health. As an internationally recognized expert and sports neurology pioneer, he was a member and co-author of the Consensus Conference on Concussion in Sport in Zurich (2012) and Berlin (2016). Dr. Kutcher founded the Sports Neurology Section of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), serving as the section’s first chair, and established and co-directed the annual Sports Concussion Conference for the American Academy of Neurology.
Among the new evidence-based concussion guideline’s recommendations is to be cautious, removing from play anyone suspected of experiencing a concussion.
If in doubt, sit it out. Being seen by a trained professional is extremely important after a concussion. If headaches or other symptoms return with the start of exercise, stop the activity and consult a doctor. You only get one brain; treat it well.
