Jess Klein is the Founder and Principal Designer of Jess Klein Studio. Originally from Oklahoma, Jess has been inspired by her mom’s passion for caring for the home from an early age, the ultimate gateway into interior design. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Interior Design, Jess moved to California, changing the trajectory of her professional path, as she dove deeper into the design world and launched her blog in 2011, as social media blossomed and created a new connected community. After accumulating industry experience and another cross country move to Boston, Jess established her own company, originally Oh, I Design Studio, now today, Jess Klein Studio. The multidisciplinary studio serves the greater New England area, focusing on a variety of interior design projects, from full home renovations to furnishings and organizing. Jess is known for her layered approach with clients, building upon their unique design journey, as she creates a sophisticated simplicity with intention in all that she does. Built on the core values of trust, accountability, and creative flexibility, the Jess Klein Studio team provides a seamless, enjoyable design experience, with emphasis on her signature blending of editorial meets polished practicality, for local Boston residents and interior design lovers alike.

  • In terms of design, “minimalism” means living with less. When I think of minimalism, I think about modern design. Some of the most prominent architects like Walter Gropius (German-American architect, founder of the Bauhaus School), Frank Lloyd Wright, and Mies Van der Rohe have been leaders of the movement. In minimalism, form follows function. Also in minimalism, we see a lot of influences from Scandinavian design.

In our work, we’re hearing from clients that they want to see less clutter and visual stimulation in their homes, but still enjoy the comfort of being surrounded by their belongings - and I think that’s where this mash-up of minimalism and maximalism is happening.

Some clients love the look of a louder, more ornate style and feel comforted by “more.” We’re also influenced by many external factors - for example, we have seen pushes on social media surrounding the desire to own less (i.e. Home Edit / Marie Kondo.) Ultimately, we live in a fast-paced and “more” mindset society - so some people are craving simple and less. I think this mindset aligns with a lot of our clients today.
