Jim Curry is a co-founder of BuildGroup, a private investment firm that partners with founders to build and scale enduring technology companies. Founded in Austin, TX, in 2015, BuildGroup provides patient capital and hands-on operational expertise, enabling companies to focus on long-term growth rather than short-term exits. The firm backs entrepreneurs who are ambitious enough to make a lasting impact and humble enough to seek collaboration. Jim brings over 20 years of experience in product, strategy, and corporate development across startups and global enterprises. In 2010, Jim co-founded the OpenStack project, helping establish it as a leading open-source cloud computing platform. He later served on the OpenStack Foundation board.
Jim holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He serves on the boards of Generation Serve and the University of Texas School for Undergraduate Studies. Jim lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife, Laurie, and their three children.
