Dr. Joel Blaxland is Assistant Professor of Political Science at Western New Mexico University. He was in the Army from 2001-2008 and was in Afghanistan and Iraq a number of times. He is a nonresident fellow at the Modern War Institute at U.S. Military Academy West Point. Of the four papers he has under review now is one about the effects of gender-based violence on women’s voting rights in Afghanistan and another on ethnic group electoral engagement using data from across Afghanistan’s 34 provinces. Dr. Blaxland teaches Politics of the Middle East, War and Peace, Politics of Terrorism, World Politics, and Social Movements and Revolutions.
