John is a seasoned and agile HR executive with more than 30 years of experience across a variety of industries and disciplines. In his 15+ years with Axios HR, he has provided his clients guidance, direction, and resources to help them become the inclusive and engaged organizations they strive to be. His areas of expertise include management and leadership consultation, employee relations, compensation, benefits strategy, performance development, employment compliance, HR process improvement as well as coaching,
training, team building, board consultation, including education and non-profit organizations. With a bachelor’s degree in Business Management with a Human Resource emphasis from Grand Valley State University, John is an energetic presenter and offers clients expertise and fresh ideas in the areas of tactical and strategic human resource services. John is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as well as an active member of the Greater Grand Rapids Association for Human Resource Management (AHRM) and has been a featured speaker in career development at Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University, Aquinas College, and subject matter specific webinars.

  • Learning styles are individual, not necessarily generational. All T&D programs should cater to a variety of learning styles, be they kinesthetic, visual, auditory, reading/writing, and blended styles. There are also plenty of other aspects to individual learning and work styles, and most research has shown that training that blends all of these aspects is often the most effective for all learners.

  • Leave it better — I’ve always tried to impress upon my kids as they were growing up, in any situation or place, to “leave it better”. From simple things like turning off the lights to picking up trash, to participating in civic engagement activities, you can either be someone that contributes from society or takes from it.
