John earned his Bachelor of Science in Micromolecular Biology as well as his Medical Doctorate from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, where his love for medicine was born. He was drawn to surgical specialties immediately and completed his Residency in General Surgery at Stamford Hospital - Columbia University in Connecticut where he won the Resident Teaching Award in his Chief Resident year. Observation of a single operation early in his training solidified his fascination with cardiac surgery. He completed his training in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Calhoun’s practice includes general adult cardiac surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery and endovascular procedures.
