Josh Thurman is a Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer at Angel AI where he is
building a safer and smarter way for children to engage with their digital world - in a way
that helps raise healthier, happier kids. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur Josh was a
highly decorated Navy SEAL Officer who led numerous successful counterterrorism and
hostage rescue missions on eleven deployments across the globe in support of National
level defense priorities.
Josh is a Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wake Forest
University. He passed on a scholarship to Yale University Divinity School to fight for our
nation after the events of 9/11 and the commencement of the War in Iraq.
In 2005 he entered the Navy after being selected as one of 8 nationally for the Navy
SEAL officer program. He completed tours of duty at SEAL Team FIVE and SEAL
Team FOUR where he deployed as a Squad Commander and Platoon Commander to
Iraq, Afghanistan, Colombia, and the Philippines. He went on to screen for the National
Mission Force and served as a Troop Commander with Naval Special Warfare
Development Group from 2011 to 2018. In total he served as a SEAL officer for 12+
years and deployed overseas 11 times in support of the Global War on Terror.
He is the recipient of Three Bronze Stars, a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Two
Joint Commendation Medals, Three Navy Commendation Medals, a Navy Achievement
Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation, and a Joint Meritorious Unit Award as well as
multiple combat and valorous distinctions.
Josh left the service in the Summer of 2018 and co-founded his first company - Uffizzi –
a leading DevOps enablement company. He and his wife Sarah have five children -
Winnie, Harry, Edmund (passed away 3/1/18), Bea, and Louise - and they currently live
in Franklin, TN. When not working or spending time with his family Josh competes as a
National level age group triathlete and ultrarunner
