Josh Wood is a prominent British hair colorist recognized for his exceptional work in color, his upscale hair salons, and his high-profile celebrity clientele. As the co-founder of the innovative home hair color brand, Josh Wood Colour, and the Global Colour Creative Director for Redken, Wood has established himself as a leading authority in the industry. He also makes regular guest appearances on ITV's "This Morning."

Born and raised in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, Wood's entry into hairdressing was serendipitous. A friend's Saturday job at a local salon inspired him to enroll in a Youth Training Scheme. He kickstarted his career at a Vidal Sassoon salon in Leeds and soon moved to London in 1992, where he gained invaluable experience working for Vidal Sassoon in Mayfair and training under Sassoon himself in New York, where he dedicated 14 years to mastering his craft.

After co-founding Real Hair in Chelsea, London, in 1999, Wood established his own salon, Josh Wood Atelier, in September 2011 in Holland Park, London. He then made history by opening a second Josh Wood Atelier in Liberty & Co. on October 30, 2012, making it the first hair salon in the prestigious department store.

In February 2014, Wood launched an exclusive range of hair care and coloring products in collaboration with Marks & Spencer, specifically designed for women with color-treated hair. This thoughtfully curated collection, featuring 13 products, includes shampoos, conditioners, and convenient color touch-up wands, revolutionizing at-home hair care.

Wood is a stalwart presence backstage at the world’s most prestigious fashion shows, including those in Paris, London, Milan, and New York. His talents were on full display during Marc Jacobs' Spring/Summer 2019 show, where he created 37 stunning hairstyles, marking it as his largest project to date. In the same season, he led the hair color for iconic brands such as Valentino, Miu Miu, Burberry, and Matty Bovan. His extensive experience includes collaborations with legendary designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, and Donatella Versace, solidifying his status as the only colorist operating at a couture level.

Wood has also partnered with celebrated fashion photographer Steven Meisel and contributed to elite publications such as American Vogue, Love Magazine, Vogue Italia, Vogue India, American W, and Man About Town. In 2015, he launched the "Les Beiges" collection for Chinese Vogue on social media, showcasing his inspirations drawn from fashion, interiors, architecture, and the natural world. His expertise was further recognized in November 2018 when he became a regular columnist for Love Magazine online, offering keen insights into his creative process.

Wood’s client roster reads like a who's who of the entertainment and fashion industries, featuring icons such as David Bowie and Kylie Minogue. His relationship with Bowie began in New York, leading to a creative partnership that birthed the iconic 'red look' for Bowie's "Earthling." Other illustrious clients include PJ Harvey, Elle Macpherson, Florence Welch, and Mick Jagger. Notably, he has contributed his exceptional skills to films such as "X-Men" and the latest "Bridget Jones" movie.

In February 2018, Wood boldly launched his own line of at-home hair color products, Josh Wood Colour, making waves both online and in Boots across the UK. As the Global Colour Creative Director for Redken, Wood invested two years into developing a comprehensive line that redefines the at-home hair color experience. Harper's Bazaar UK commended his visionary approach, declaring that "Wood has truly thought of everything to make the at-home experience effortless and elegant." On March 10, 2019, he announced a remarkable $6.5 million Series A round investment to elevate his at-home hair color business to new heights. Spearheaded by Index, with support from Jam Jar Investments and Venrex, this investment aims to disrupt the at-home hair color industry, showcasing Wood’s ambition and innovative spirit.
