Juan is the CTO and Co-Founder of Luminary Cloud, a pioneer in realtime engineering. The company's computer-aided engineering (CAE) platform helps engineers create the products of the future, while solving modern challenges, such as increasing the range of electric vehicles, fuel-burn reductions of aircraft, achieving energy efficiency goals set out by federal regulators, and increasing product safety.
Additionally, Juan is Chair of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford, where he founded the Aerospace Design Laboratory—specializing in the development of high-fidelity computational design methodologies to enable the creation of efficient aerospace systems. He is the author of 200+ technical publications on the topics of computational aircraft/spacecraft design, multi-disciplinary optimization, fundamental numerical methods, and high-performance parallel computing. Previously, he was Director of Fundamental Aeronautics Program Office at NASA, where he oversaw research in Hypersonics, Supersonics, Subsonic Fixed Wing, and Subsonic Rotary Wing efforts. He was also a member of the team that currently holds the world speed record for human powered vehicles over water.
